Boo! How Planning with Spreadsheets Scares Your Customers Away

Halloween is just around the corner, with ghouls and goblins popping up everywhere (not to mention gobs of candy). The ghost costumes may be scaring the neighborhood kids, but are your customers getting spooked by the fact that your demand planning happens on a spreadsheet? Of course, they don't know that's the problem but they do know that the product they came to buy is out-of-stock because you presumably didn't plan to sell so much.

And what about the parts of your business the customer doesn't see, like the warehouse shelves overflowing with product? All that wasted inventory not only gives a serious blow to your ROI, it also effects the customer. If you're spending money on products that aren't selling, that's just less money being spent to buy the right products that your customers want.

In a recent report published by Apparel Magazine, Gartner Research Director Peter Bambridge states that one of the main challenges that apparel organizations are currently facing is "the need for better planning." The good news is businesses are catching on.
