JustEnough recently sponsored an industry survey and research report with EKN on the state of assortment management and optimization. It found that in the last few months, fundamentals of the retail industry are trending on the softer side. Some retailers are facing headwinds in terms of tepid customer traffic in stores, unpredictable top line revenue and emergence of off-price sales channels in traditionally less price sensitive segments. In the face of such macro problems, EKN found that a strong focus is needed on one of the core customer-centric retail building blocks - Assortment Management & Optimization.

First, more than 1 in 3 retailers lack predictive tools to forecast customer demand and second, about the same percentage are unable to plan assortments around multiple product attributes such as size, color, styles and others.

The Crazy Store is one of the largest discount variety chains in South Africa with a footprint of approximately 280 stores. The chain was utilizing a dated and highly customized replenishment solution that could no longer support the growth and complexity of its business.
