The Holy Grail of Omni-Channel Merchandising

JustEnough recently sponsored an industry survey and research report with EKN on the state of omni-channel merchandising. The report found that while retailers are making great strides with customer-centricity in the functional areas of marketing and customer service, merchandising has not made the same progress. This isn’t that surprising as merchandising is about products, and for many retailers it is a big part of their traditionally product-centric approach to business.

In the new digital and omni-channel age of retail, merchandising is undergoing several radical transformations:

  • From being largely siloed to being more integrated with demand forecasts, inventory planning, product innovation and dynamic channel execution needs (i.e. pricing, promotions, space etc.)
  • From being focused on larger segments of customers based on demographics and purchase similarities (products, baskets, trips) to being focused on micro-segments of customers based on customer lifetime value and lifestyle needs
  • From being a product-centric function to being one that is customer-centric
  • From being largely dependent on merchant intuition to being one that is driven largely by customer insight

You are invited to download this free report and view the free infographic to learn about priority initiatives, challenges and technology trends for 2015 and beyond for customer-centric merchandising/assortment areas related to business processes, technology and strategies where best-in-class retailers focus.

SHOS is a retailer that sells home appliances, lawn and garden equipment, apparel, mattresses, sporting goods and tools. The company has four subsidiary store formats: Sears Hometown, Sears Outlet, Sears Hardware and Appliance and Sears Home Appliance Showrooms.

SHOS was spun out of Sears Holdings in 2012, but continued to lease back core merchandising functionality from their former parent company. SHOS needed to put in place its own systems. Capgemini was selected by SHOS as the prime contractor for outsourcing all business functions, including merchandising and planning. Capgemini recommended and procured NetSuite to replace SHOS’s legacy ERP system. Secondly, Capgemini chose the full suite of JustEnough Planning solutions to supplement and augment NetSuite’s omni-channel planning capabilities.

HEMA is an international retailer offering both food and non-food products through HEMA-branded stores in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom. HEMA distinguishes itself from other retailers by developing and selling only own-brand products. HEMA strives to surprise its customers by offering practical, attractive products of great quality at surprisingly low prices. At HEMA, they make the ordinary extraordinary.

With a diverse range of products and wide range of store sizes and locations, HEMA was challenged to ensure their assortments were built efficiently, targeted effectively and were appropriate to the size and layout of each store. In addition, HEMA wanted to replace their mostly spreadsheet-based, manual merchandise planning process in order to gain a cohesive, holistic view of their overall merchandise plan.

HEMA selected JustEnough Merchandise Financial Planning and Assortment Planning based on the strength of our solution, our partnership approach and our commitment to the European territory.
